History

Founding and Early Years

Established in 1928 by Sir Geoffrey Fitzhervey de Montmorency, then Governor of Punjab, de’Montmorency College of Dentistry has been a cornerstone of dental education in Pakistan. The affiliated Punjab Dental Hospital commenced operations in April 1930, situated on a 12-kanal site adjacent to Lahore’s historic Badshahi Mosque. Dr. Peter Gillies served as the institution’s first principal.
In 1934, the college was formally instituted at the same location, initially offering a two-year condensed Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) program for medical graduates (M.B.B.S.). By 1936, it transitioned into a comprehensive four-year B.D.S. program affiliated with the University of the Punjab.
