Introduction

The Department of Oral Pathology at de ’Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore has served as a foundational pillar within the institution’s dental education, dedicated to the extensive study of disorders affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. Prof. Dr. Zainab Rizvi joined this department in year 2013 and promoted as Head of the Department in year 2014. Since then, her devotion, hard work, and exceptional leadership qualities have been crucial in the continued success and growth of the department. The department plays a vital role in advancing the understanding of complex oral diseases, contributing significantly to research and the academic field. It is also devoted to provide high-quality education to both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, ensuring they gain a comprehensive understanding of oral pathology. Through a blend of theoretical learning and exposure to the latest research developments, the department provides students with the knowledge and expertise necessary to excel in their future roles as dental professionals and researchers.

Postgraduate Training

For postgraduate students specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, the department offers advanced and comprehensive training in diagnostic methodologies, research techniques, and the microscopic study of complex cases in collaboration with other esteemed medical institutions. This rigorous curriculum is designed to cultivate expertise in the field, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to make significant contributions to the advancement of oral pathology. Twelve postgraduate trainees from de’ Montmorency College of Dentistry, Lahore, have successfully completed their degrees and are now serving in prestigious institutions across Pakistan and internationally. Their accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of our Head of Department.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The department is committed to the ongoing professional development of our faculty and staff through seminars, conferences and workshops. These programs are designed to ensure healthcare professionals stay informed about the latest advancements in the histopathological study of oral diseases. Our Head of the Department firmly believes in the value of continuous learning and knowledge enhancement. She actively participates in national and international conferences and workshops and encourages other staff members to do the same.

Future Vision and Goals for Excellence in Oral Pathology

Looking ahead, the department is enthusiastic to continue its journey of academic excellence in oral pathology. The future vision is to integrate artificial intelligence into the field of oral pathology, revolutionizing traditional diagnostic strategies. A multidisciplinary approach to academic teaching will be incorporated to improve the learning experience and enhance collaboration across various medical disciplines. Lab simulations will be implemented to enhance practical knowledge of students.
Our Head of the Department envisions that all faculty and educational staff in the Oral Pathology Department will possess a thorough understanding of medical education.
Furthermore, a global student exchange program will be launched to encourage international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
In addition, the Oral Pathology Department will host and participate in future conferences, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and ensuring continued engagement with the latest advancements in the field.
Our ultimate goal is to uphold our reputation as a leading institution in oral pathology education, helping to shape the next generation of skilled professionals who will play a key role in advancing oral healthcare.
