INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT

Oral Biology is a basic dental science subject that is taught to 1st Year BDS students. It serves as the foundation for clinical dental sciences, providing a comprehensive understanding of the development, structure, function, and clinical relevance of oral and craniofacial tissues. This multidisciplinary field encompasses oral embryology, anatomy, histology, physiology, tooth morphology, and dental occlusion. Our department offers a dynamic learning environment for first-year undergraduate dental students. We employ a learner-centered approach, utilizing innovative teaching methods such as multimedia lectures, educational videos, interactive group sessions, practical demonstrations and student presentations.

Oral biology laboratory is fully equipped with microscopes for visualizing histological sections of oral tissues along with tooth models to further enhance their skills on identification of individual teeth. Our faculty comprises Ph.D. scholars, with a strong research orientation and publications in renowned international and local journals. Workshops on tooth carving skills on soap blocks were arranged throughout the session to improve manual dexterity skills and understanding of tooth morphology. By maintaining exceptional standards in basic science teaching and research, we empower graduates to adopt a holistic approach to clinical problem-solving. Our vision is to produce competent graduates who can apply their knowledge of orofacial tissues, leveraging evidence-based practices in their dental careers
