Introduction

The Department of Science of Dental Materials is dedicated to teaching and discovery of the materials used in dentistry, their properties and how they interact with oral tissues. It covers a range of materials like metals, ceramics, resins and cements, and how they are used in preventive, restorative, and prosthetic dentistry. The department aims to educate students regarding manipulation and handling protocols, material characterization and property testing, biocompatibility and safety, and appraisal of recent developments in contemporary restorative and prosthetic materials.

Goals of the Department:

Prepare future dentists: Equip students with the knowledge and skills to confidently choose and use dental materials in their clinical practice.
Promote advancements in dental care: Encourage research and innovation in the field of dental materials.
Contribute to the well-being of patients: Ensure that dental materials used in treatment are safe, effective, and biocompatible.
Promote Research‑Driven Culture: The department promotes a research‑driven culture through mentorship of student projects, evidence‑based evaluation of new products and techniques, and collaborative studies on biocompatibility, adhesion, mechanical performance, wear and longevity of dental materials
In essence, the Department of Science of Dental Materials provides a comprehensive understanding of dental materials, their properties, and their applications, enabling future dentists to deliver high-quality patient care
